Anarchists Yameljanau And Komar Sentenced To 4 And 3.5 Years Of Strict Regime Colony

Previously, human rights activists recognized them as political prisoners.

On March 27, the Minsk city court reduced the sentences of anarchists Mikita Yameljanau and Ivan Komar, who had been sentenced to 7 years in jail. The activists were not brought to the consideration of cassation appeals, the defenders' petitions to bring the convicts to court were rejected, and the reasons for such a decision were not announced, Radio Svaboda reports.

Yameljanau is now sentenced to 4 years, Komar to 3 years and 6 months in a strict regime colony. The amount of damage (144 rubles in one episode, 1 ruble 48 kopecks in the second) remained unchanged.

On February 12, the Savetski district court in Minsk found Mikita Yameljanau and Ivan Komar guilty of crimes committed in September and October 2019. Yameljanau has confessed that he threw a light bulb with paint at the Minsk city court, and Komar has confessed that he was nearby at that moment. The event took place before the trial of anarchist activist Dzmitry Paliyenka. Both defendants said in court that it was a demonstration of solidarity with like-minded people.
