Who’s Screwing with Gasoline?

The authorities hush up many things.

The other day, Belarusians began to notice that their fuel consumption had sharply increased. They all claim that the driving style hasn't been changed, the cars are in good condition and there have been no abrupt changes in the weather lately.

Charter97.org talked to a well-known businessman and blogger Viktar Gorbachev about the origins of this problem.

- What may be the reason for the fuel consumption increase?

- I would delist underfilling, it would be noticeable and stated. Most likely, it relates to the quality of fuel, which has become much worse. It's more likely that "dirty oil" was mixed with normal oil. As a result, we have a fuel of lower quality. The consumption of such fuel is much higher. Claims about the weather, the wind are all nonsense.

To answer this question, one needs to examine the sample. Who will do it? I don't know who's going to do it. The quality of the fuel has deteriorated, that's a fact.

Recent oil-related events show that the authorities are saving as much as they can. They process both "dirty" oil and add something. Most likely, the authorities have taken such a step because the fuel consumed by the country may not be enough soon. They are now doing everything not to make a mess. They're stirring everything up. The quality is poor, but they need to have volumes.

If within a week or two the oil agreements with Russia are not reached and only tankers deliver it, then within a month there will be such a mess that there may be shortages of oil products.

- There has already been a precedent when the quality of gasoline in Druzhba fell sharply because of chlorinated oil. Does it mean that motorists pay for mistakes of the authorities again?

- In our country, the population is always liable for the misdeeds of the authorities. Anyway, the authorities attempt to shift their problems on us.

I think that the reaction of motorists to the conflict should develop soon. From petitions to strikes, as a blogger recently did, when they came to Belneftekhim to ask directly about gasoline prices.

- How, in your opinion, can the situation develop?

- It all depends on the population's activity. It's not the same as 10-15 years ago. Anyway, someone will blow this powder keg out. There's a limit to any patience. Now the gasoline is rising by a penny and the prices of products are rising as well because everything is tied to fuel. Prices for food, services, housing and utilities will rise.

Anyway, somewhere the chain will break. There are many possible options. The situation will only get worse. The authorities hush up many things, the information is closed. Officially everything is "good", but the situation is different in reality. People get tired of it, they only learn everything from independent sources. However, people will unite and there will be an outbreak. As soon as all mad money runs dry, then people will realize that something should be done. It's time to change this power. It will change for sure and they will be responsible for the situation they have created.

- What would you like to say to the Belarusian authorities and motorists?

Guys, stop hiding in the kitchens and sitting on sofas. There is no prince riding a white horse and no heroes will come to save you. Today, every person is a hero. Regain your human qualities, do not hide behind the backs of others. No one will solve your problems. Start with your local problems and move forward to the countrywide one - to change this power. We will succeed. We have to live honestly. Don't look at this clan family and other people's concepts. There should be no fear. Learn to be responsible for your deeds.

It's clear that the authorities have stolen enough, they're doing well: they live lives and think that it will be always like that. I would like to offer to read history and learn what happens to dictatorships. It will end up. It will pose a great problem for the nation and grief for those who posed it. Some of you will be liable.

A lot of officials are going to be on the dock, they know that. They just think that it will not affect them. But it will.

Stop, do not do this mess and try to be with people, do not distance yourself from them. We should correct these errors together. One day we will erase this line between officials who sit in a chair and a citizen and pretend that everything is fine. As soon as we learn to negotiate, the situation will drastically change in the country. When we stop going to voluntary-compulsory clean-ups and stop crying in the kitchen. Today, everyone is responsible for oneself. That's what we need to learn. Only then will we see what it means to take care of the country.

Everything will be fine, but we need to get off our backside, shake hands, look into each other's eyes and realize that there are so many of us. The power will get scared and run away.
