Belarusians Buy Up Medical Face Masks

Belarusians Buy Up Medical Face Masks

There are no medical face masks even at warehouses.

On February 27, Belarus the first case of coronavirus infection has been revealed in Belarus. The patient is a student from Iran, who arrived to Minsk on a flight from Baku on February 22. Tut.by called the pharmacies and found out that the Belarusians had bought all the medical face masks, and it remains unknown when the new ones will be supplied.

On the tabletka.by website, as of 1.00 p.m. on February 28, medical masks were listed as available in only one pharmacy,in the quantity of 50 packs.

“It was at 10 in the morning, now they have already been sold out,” they told us at the pharmacy. “It is unknown when the new ones will be supplied. There are none in stock, where can we get them?

In the Iskamed pharmacy network they said that usually medical masks are supplied once or twice a week, and they are immediately sold out.

“There is no specific schedule for the supply, so there is no forecast either,” they added.

The Belfarmacia network reported that in the city the masks remained in individual pharmacies, in the amount of two or three pieces. They also do not know anything about the possible dates of the masks supply.

The WHO believes that a conventional medical mask cannot protect against coronavirus, if you do not combine its use with proper hand washing and other measures. The Center for Expertise and Testing in Health Care of Belarus previously said that wearing a mask is only an additional source of protection.

The WHO advises in the domestic environment to focus on the observance of general rules of personal hygiene, and not on wearing masks:

wash your hands regularly with soap;

do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth;

when coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or bend of your elbow.

Herein, there are antiviral drugs in pharmacies, including interferons.
