Putin Made an Unexpected Oil Proposal, Lukashenka Says

The Kremlin has not yet confirmed this information.

Lukashenka told about the telephone conversation with Putin. He stated this at the meeting with Governor of Arkhangelsk region of the Russian Federation Igor Orlov, BelTA informs.

In particular, Lukashenka discussed the supply of energy resources - oil.

"I apologize for being late. The Russian President called (you know that we sometimes have disputes on some issues). He proposed us to think it over, including on oil supplies to Belarus. Of course, we are now (it was an unexpected proposal) trying to consider it. But it probably does not matter. The product is Russian. Russia may sell it at fair or not fair prices. Because it's a monopolist. We didn't get any more oil from anyone. The same regards gas" said Lukashenka.

"By the way, Vladimir Putin suggested a formula to calculate how much we would lose from the customs duty reduction in 2020 against the last year," he said.

"If we received $1 billion from the duty last year; this year we may get $700 million due to the reduction of this very duty (it's declining). He said they would compensate $300 million. Among other things, we will compensate at the expense of bonuses to companies," said Lukashenka.

"This is his proposal. This is at least a way to solve those disputes. The oil issue implies Russia's readiness to maintain the oil financial level of the previous year. Well, it's a step up. We will count it all. However, this counting makes little difference. After all, Russia does not offer another option yet. They asked us to trade at the world oil price. But the companies did not agree to it. They also asked to add a $12 bonus to the world price. Because they allegedly have margin markets - Europe, Ukraine, the Belarusian market," said Aliaksandr Lukashenka.

According to RIA Novosti, Putin made an "unexpected offer" to Minsk on Friday. Putin offered to compensate $300 million and the bonus to oil companies.

TASS reports that Putin has offered Minsk to maintain the financial conditions of 2019 for the supply of Russian oil.

The Kremlin has not yet confirmed this information.
