Mahiliou Drivers Decided To Protest Every Saturday

The first rally was held near the E-City shopping center because of the rising of petrol prices.

Mahiliou citizens who disagree with the rise in motor fuel prices are going to protest every Saturday to draw attention to the problem.

This has been reported by one of the activists, Uladzimir Kryt.

The first such rally was held in front of the E-City shopping center in Mahiliou yesterday.

"About twenty of us gathered together. We are common car enthusiasts, who have their own cars. A lot of us have families, children, and we can't afford to pay more for fuel. At first, they didn't pay any attention to us, but then we noticed that there were three cars standing next to us and that the people in the cars were capturing us on video", - the Mahiliou resident said.

Probably, the police were recording the protesters on video. They have not filed an application for holding the rally with the city executive committee and are not going to do so.

"We are not going to do anything illegal, blocking the roads, for example. We're just going to show other people that we are here and what we are against of. As a sign of support, everyone can tie a red ribbon to his car," - Uladzimir added.

According to him, rallies in other cities are not expected yet. The participants of the Saturday protest have agreed to gather at the same place in a week and to hold rallies every Saturday in the future.

Over the past few years, petrol prices have been rising steadily. The last time the fuel price went up on February 2 - by another 1 kopeck. This is the fifth increase since the beginning of the year.
