Hennadz Shepeleu: Battle Of Vorsha Is Our Brand That's Ignored By Authorities

This year marks the 505th anniversary of the victory battle, which has been included not only in history textbooks, but also in manuals on military tactics.

Hennadz Shepeleu is a longtime admirer of the Belarusian culture. He has witnessed many events of the newest Belarusian history in Vorsha district, Radio Racyja reports. This includes the heyday and decline of the once famous bard festival "Battle of Vorsha", as well as the memorialization of the Krapivenskaye Field, where on September 8, 1514, the troops of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania defeated the three times larger Moscow army.

Some time ago, in the first weekend of autumn, a tent town under white-red-white flags used to rise on this field, and the singing to the guitar gathered hundreds of listeners. After several brutal police dispersals, the bard festivals ceased to be large-scale, but the tradition of visiting the Krapivenskaye Field these days remained. And Hennadz Shepeleu became the "guardian of the Krapivenskaye Field": on the eve of the historic battle anniversary he comes to the field with a tent and sleeps in the legendary places, allegedly watching them from the enemy ...

Hennadz Shepeleu is convinced that the memory of the famous Battle of Vorsha could become a real brand of Vorsha district:

- This place is such a brand! If you are smart about it, you can get a boost here not only on September 8! I wish that our power would gain a little bit of mind! Take the same Poles, Lithuanians - they sometimes create history from scratch, create brands. And here we have a living history!
