The accusations against the civil activist are of a clear political character.

Head of the human rights center Viasna Ales Bialiatski, who is now participating in the OSCE human dimension conference in Warsaw, has made a relevant statement.

- Being here, where numerous representatives of the NGOs from the OSCE member States have gathered, I remain preoccupied with the thoughts about the destiny of the jailed civil activist Dzmitry Paliyenka. Literally the other day it was reported that the trial he is to stand on September 25, would be carried out in the closed regime. This is, of course, outrageous. Dzmitry's right to open trial is violated. We will know nothing about what will be happening at that trial, and we have all circumstances to recognize him as a political prisoner.

It is necessary to stress that the accusations against Dzmitry Paliyenka are absurd. He is charged with " incitement of hatred towards police". What kind of a social group is " the police" to apply this article to them? Dzmitry is also charged with " insult of the former Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich", who is no longer the Minister. Why should he be subjected to criminal responsibility for this?

I think that they hold closed trial due to the reason that the accusations against Dzmitry Paliyenka are of a clear political character, and the trial itself doesn't stand up to any criticism. Freedom to Dzmitry Paliyenka!
