Viktar Marchyk: I've Heard A Lot Of Things From People At Pickets To Collect Signatures

Entire villages come to the stands with national symbols.

Viktar Marchyk takes part in the "parliamentary campaign" in Slonim electoral district No. 58. Every day, the pickets to collect signatures are held in different localities. Viktar told the press service of "European Belarus," what people who sign for him say:

- We've heard a lot of interesting things. Actually, people do not believe neither the authorities, nor what they say. There was a case when an old lady of 88 years came to the picket. She told us a lot of interesting things, including that after the war it was better to live than it is now. A lot of people come up, we gather small rallies in the villages.

People understand very well that we don't have elections, they say that I'm unlikely to pass. I say I know this very well, but we need signatures so that we can be in the streets for another month. It is clear that if there is already a person who has been appointed by the authorities, he will be there. But if we don't take part in the campaign, if there is no alternative, then it would make no sense for them to falsify or do anything else. And then, in fact, they will hold "fair" elections, and we will not be able to prove that there was any falsification. We must show that there is an alternative.

Many people talk about their problems, communicate. A disabled person who had two strokes just came up to us and told us that he was only given a second group of disability, although 80% of people with his diagnoses simply do not survive. He was given a wheelchair free of charge, and a government agency wanted to get 20% of the cost for this wheelchair. It was clear from this man's story that the state structures treat people with disabilities not in a human way, but with no conscience. These are the stories that people tell.

In general, different people sign - both young and old, middle-aged.
