Khoiniki District Residents In Panic Because Of Fire In Chernobyl Zone

The town of Khoiniki is shrouded with haze.

Residents of the Khoiniki district of the Homel region begin to panic: a large-scale fire started in the 30-km Chernobyl-affected area. This fact was officially confirmed by the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine and a number of Ukrainian media, the NEXTA Telegram channel reports.

“Yesterday, we all observed a huge column of smoke in the evicted zone,” the residents of Khoiniki write to us. “We also saw the movement of fire engines with special signals. There are rumors in the town that the village of Lomysh in the exclusion zone has completely burned down. It has remained unknown whether this is true, since there are hardly any people willing to verify this. And even if they are found, nobody will let them into the zone.

However, the town of Khoiniki has been shrouded with haze this morning. It smells of burning.

Of course, if a fire rages on the Ukrainian side, this is not the responsibility of the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations. However, forests infected with radiation can burn there - such smoke does not exactly emit anything good into the atmosphere. Meanwhile, state borders are nothing for fire and radionuclides, as you know.

Also, information about the fire in the Chernobyl zone in the Khoiniki district of the Homel region has been confirmed in the official operational reports of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus.

50 hectares of forest and grass polluted with radiation - this sounds serious. Just in case, we would advise residents of the Khoiniki district not to leave their houses without special need, not to open windows and to use at least respirators.
