Mahiliou Activist: People Are Ready To Defend Their Health And Right To Breathe Clean Air

The Omsk Karbon plant has not been increasing its capacity, but the activists have not stopped.

There are two dozen companies operating in the Mahiliou Free Economic Zone. The residents of the surrounding villages and Mahiliou itself are affected by their work, and the activists are fighting for clean air, Belsat reports.

The confrontation in Mahiliou continues. The For Healthy Mahiliou initiative has summed up the results of the struggle against enterprises that pollute the environment.

The environmental activists have the most complaints against Omsk Karbon - the company that will produce carbon black - the plant has not yet opened, but has already polluted the area.

Omsk Karbon considers the claims of Mahiliou citizens to be groundless. The official website of the Omsk Karbon Group reports that the company has sent a complaint to the Prosecutor General's Office against the actions of the activists, noting that "environmentalists" use information that does not correspond to reality.

The activists submitted to the Ministry of Nature and Environmental Protection a project for creating a special public commission on environmental issues, which would monitor the work of potentially dangerous enterprises.

"At the moment, we have achieved a ban on increasing Omsk Karbon's capacity, which I believe is a sufficient success and a signal to other enterprises that the public is not so silent today, people are ready to defend their health, their lives and the right to breathe clean air," - an activist of the For Healthy Mahiliou initiative, Andrei Badziliou, states.

The Omsk Karbon leadership, in turn, is planning another press tour around the enterprise, to which the environmental activists have also been invited.
