Revised Decree On "Parasites" Caused New Wave Of Discontent

The increase in the payment for utility services for "parasites" has proved to be very high.

According to the revised decree, the able-bodied people who are not employed in the economy have to pay for the services of utility workers at an increased rate. The increase was quite high, as shown by the figures for heating hot water. For example, the amount increased by 550 per cent for Maryja Tarasenko, a Homel resident, Leanid Sudalenka, a member of the Human Rights Centre Viasna and a legal inspector of the REP trade union, told Radio Racyja:

- Since autumn, since October 1 of this year, the price of heating and gas supply will rise as well. And if these two options will go up five and a half times, then no family budget of the able-bodied who have been added to the list of so-called parasites will be able to withstand it.

According to Leanid Sudalenka, he has helped seven more unemployed to write complaints about their illegal inclusion in the list of "parasites". All the complaints were satisfied on the most insignificant grounds. According to Sudalenka, the most reasonable thing would be to put the decree in a cold storage and forget about it.
