Zmitser Bekaliuk: Launching Battery Plant Can Cause So Many Problems That It Is Scary To Even Think About It

The authorities are not ready to make decisions.

The initiative group against the construction of the battery plant in Brest was again invited to a meeting with representatives of the regional executive committee. The meeting took place on July 17th and did not bring any real results. It was the second meeting of representatives of the regional authorities and opponents of the plant launch, this time it was held without the participation of the head of the region Anatol Lis.

According to the opponents of the plant, interviewed by the belsat.eu correspondent, after the meeting it became known that the regional executive committee had taken a wait-and-see position until the decision of the third ecological expertise was made on July 19. The participants of the meeting believe that the main issue that the representatives of the regional executive committee are concerned about is the number of people going out to feed pigeons on Sunday.

"The main result of the meeting with the regional authorities is the following: we brought to their attention that the authorities allowed the construction of the plant in the suburbs of Brest despite the reputation of this man. Nobody analyzed Lemiasheuski's production activities in Vaukavysk, Pinsk and Belaaziorsk. The authorities haven't evaluated all the possible problems related to the construction of the plant and the full-scale control over this production," - Zmitser Bekaliuk, one of the leaders of the protest movement against the construction of the battery plant, told Belsat.

Zmitser has analyzed all the answers that the initiative group received from the state agencies and sees the complete confusion and helplessness of the persons obliged to make a decision on the complete closure of the plant.

"The full launch of the plant can create so many problems that it is scary to even think about it. There are options to stop all this, there are opportunities to use the constructed production facilities - the decision of the state level is necessary for this. Delaying the decision on the plant can only exacerbate the situation," - Bekaliuk said.

Now the Brest AKB plant is not working. Last Sunday about 150 people went out to "feed pigeons" in Brest
