Activist From Brest: I Stood, Stand And Will Stand

A commission came to the mother of a disabled child, who participates in the people’s watch at the battery plant.

At noon, on June 6, the commission of the department of education at the administration of the Maskouski district of Brest came to the apartment of Brest dweller Maryja Halalyuk. Maryja’s son Ivan is the first child in Belarus with the rarest Hallervorden-Spatz disease, Brestskaya Gazeta reports.

According to the members of the commission, the management of the department instructed them to check the conditions in which the disabled child lives, after an article on the Internet. It's about the material, which tells how Maryja, along with other caring people, keeps the watch, near the battery factory, also in the night time.

However, Maryja is sure: the point is not in the article. She knows for sure that the check was appointed after a recent letter to the authorities. According to her, a certain Vadzim Makeyeu asked to check what the mother of a disabled child, who needs constant care, regularly does near the plant. The same person used to complain about Dzmitry Bekalyuk, who “discredited Belarus,” and Siarhei Piatrukhin, who raised money to pay off a huge fine through a crowdfunding platform.

Maryja told and showed the members of the commission the conditions in which her son lives. The bed of the boy is in the spacious room. There is a lift to sit him into a stroller, as Ivan is heavy. Ivan has two wheelchairs - for the house and the street.

“Do not worry, sweet rabbit, everything is fine,” says Maryja, stroking her son’s hand, and suddenly adds to the audience: “I have a very clear civil position. As for the construction of the battery plant, I stood, I stand and I will stand as long as necessary. I am for a clean city and healthy human offspring. And if in my family there is a disabled child, believe me: this is not my minus. This is my plus. Big plus.”

The Commission drafted a survey report. They had no complaints on either the conditions in which Ivan lives, or to Maryja.

“Our task is to examine the living conditions, health and life of the child. We recorded that the child has everything he needs. We did not come to find some sort of sedition. This mother is very caring. We have no complaints about mom and never had. We will hand over the report to the manager who sent us, ” summed up the representatives of the commission.
