Zaika On Lukashenka's Economic Policy: This Is Agrarian Stupidity

What should Belarusian producers do in the current situation?

Belarus needs to reduce its dependence on the agricultural market of Russia. This was stated by a member of the board (minister) of industry and agro-industrial complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission Aliaksandr Subbotsin during the Belahra-2019 exhibition, BelTA informs.

"At least a third of the products should be sold to non-CIS countries," – Aliaksandr Subbotsin says.

Among the promising markets, the Eurasian official recalls China, the Middle East and the African continent. Subbotsin adds that the European Union market is gradually opening up for our producers, but it is necessary to conduct more active negotiations with Russia.

Head of the Strategy analytical center, Leanid Zaika, said to the Belsat TV channel that the Belarusian products would be pushed out from the agricultural market of Russia:

"Why Lukashenka and his entourage, who follow him through the barns and calf houses – the governing people – why did they suddenly imagine that Belarus could sell supplies to Russia for $7 billion? This was a wrong prediction. This is an absolute agrarian stupidity.

According to the expert, the Russian pork and poultry producers have managed to fully provide their market with their own meat after U.S. President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on Russia, and the embargo on Western goods was introduced. And in the agricultural year 2017-2018, Russia ranked first in the world in terms of wheat exports.

"Belarus needs to take an absolutely competent look at the stupidity of counting on oil refining - it drove the country the lowest of the low. Food projects have already ended, too, – the expert says. – What should the Belarusian producers do? Gather round, draw banners "Aliaksandr, Come Work With Us In The Collective Farm!" And that's all. And what do they expect, who will look for these markets for them?"

On May 21, at a meeting with the government, Aliaksandr Lukashenka confirmed that about 60 Belarusian enterprises have no access to the Russian market due to restrictions. According to the head of the country, the balances of agricultural products, signed with Russia, are not implemented, as Moscow does not adhere to its obligations.
