Activists Revealed Brest Authorities' New Trick

The officials want to hold a meeting to disrupt the feeding of pigeons.

In the afternoon of June 21, first the Brest Region Executive Committee, and then the City Executive Committee reported that a meeting of the chairman of the Brest Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Aliaksandr Haroshka with the population would be held in the Trade Unions' Palace of Culture on Sunday, June 23 at 11.00, the Brest Newspaper reports.

"Anyone interested will be able to get answers to questions about the environmental situation in the region," - the event's announcement says.

But opponents of the construction of the battery factory near Brest, which affects the environment, are not going to go to the meeting. And one of the reasons is the weekly feeding of pigeons at Lenin Square. The activists are sure that the meeting with Aliaksandr Haroshka has been specially scheduled for 11 am on Sunday morning in order to make people go to the Trade Union Palace.

"The authorities are trying to disrupt the protest. Now their goal is to move the people off the square. Personally, I am not going to go to the meeting with Haroshka. I won't hear anything new there. I'm going to the announced meeting with Aliaksandr Rahachuk," - activist Dzmitry Bekaliuk says.

Indeed, last Sunday, activist Vital Kazak informed those present about the meeting of Brest City Executive Committee Chairman Aliaksandr Rahachuk with the opponents of the battery factory on June 23. He said Rahachuk himself had told him about it via the phone.

However, the city executive committee said that they knew nothing about such a meeting.
