What Stands Behind the "Apple-Oil" Conflict Between Belarus and Russia?

Lukashenka brought hogs to a bad market.

"Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s agricultural safety watchdog) has once again seen sanction products under Belarusian certificates. Now "Belarusian" apples and pears are banned in Russia. Lukashenka threatened to close the Druzhba pipeline for repair in response to the Russian sanctions. Head of the Strategy Analytical Center Leanid Zaika commented Charter97.org on the situation in the "apple-oil" conflict between Russia and Belarus. - Professional work for Rosselkhoznadzor. They are capable of analyzing products up to DNA level. So they have formal grounds for a ban. We have already had such conflicts. For example, on meat. DNA specialists can easily do this. One can find things that do not originate from Belarus at all. As for apples, I'd like to say that our Aunt Frosia can easily find our wrinkled apples in a store, which have been dried up for several months. Apples from Poland look good. Organoleptic indices are excellent. The main thing is that they are juicy. In the south of Poland, gardens sprawl for dozens of kilometers. It's quite natural that their apples are in great demand. We do not have such production output. We import even from Turkey, from countries with a good climate. I wouldn't defend those companies, engaged in re-export, if I were a Belarusian official. They have deceived them, because Dunkwert (head of Rosselkhoznadzor) asked the FSB to find out what stands behind these companies. Obviously, in general, it will be found out. I am sure information will be provided. A very unexpected one. Lukashenka has made two quite serious mistakes recently: his forecast for the elections in Ukraine; it shows that he has judged by himself. The second one is protection of rather gross violators of the whole system of trade relations. They have been caught in the act. I do not know why he does it. Personal interests and the interests of his entourage may be involved. This is how the situation looks like. - How do you assess the amount of damage caused by this Rosselkhoznadzor ban? - No damage will be inflicted on us, except moral shame, and so on. But this is not the first time we have to blush for power. There is no economic damage. If you care about all sorts of troublemakers, why should we worry about them? They do not create anything, but simply resell. Again, personal interests of the ruler's entourage may be affected. It is no secret that they have earned much from re-exporting sanctioned products. - Lukashenka has threatened to close Druzhba pipeline for repairs. What losses may it bear for Russia? - It's a stupid thing, because not Putin but the Russian security services will deal with all comrades in Belarus, who don't understand who they're dealing with. It's like playing with a lion. Russia will not tolerate it. Belarus is bound to Russia. Oil needle will not bring any good to the current authorities. But for future Belarus - the less we receive income from oil, the smarter and more progressive we will be and live better. - Tell us about possible developments. - I'm not a forecaster, but someone may get sick, go to the hospital, fall down while skiing. Another development of events may happen: Lukashenka will go to the Kremlin, he will be awarded the Hero of Russia and become a deputy to Putin. In the meantime, we are buying up apples, and there will be a lot of them in our stores in the near future.
