Authorities Task Emergency Officers To Search For ‘Parasites’

They visit people’s houses, asking to fill out a special form.

One of the most important servicves – the Emergency Situations Service – has been sent to search for “social parasites” in Baranavichy. The firefighters come to people’s houses, and with their memorized phrases about help in the emergency situations, pull out the information on who is the housing owner, and ask to fill a special questionary form, Radio Racyja reports.

And at that precise moment the people start comprehending the real purpose of this visit, Baranavichy resident Mikhail Sakuta says:

- He said, “I see there are underage kids living with you. We would like to check the conditions they live in. We check if there are disabled persons, maybe somebody requires help, we also inspect the housing. And the last question – who is the owner of the apartment?” So this is what they’ve come for??!

According to the member of the human rights center “Viasna” Aliaksandr Vaytseshyk, the officers of the Ministry for Emergency Situations, as well as school teachers, social workers are doing something they should not do:

- I can make a conclusion that the number of fires and emergency situations in Baranavichy has considerably decreased. So, naturally, the number of emergency workers should be reduced.

According to the human rights defender, such visits of the firefighters to the people’s homes should be assessed as nothing but absense at the workplace. As for the promised help and the advice to install a fire alarm unit - this is a scorn over the citizens, for whose money this emergency service exists.
