"People Just Dream Of Getting Rid Of Lukashenka As Soon As Possible"

A completely new situation has emerged in Belarus.

Natallia Radzina, editor-in-chief of the Charter-97 website, has become a guest of Studio Х97. During the interview, she told presenter Yauhen Klimakin why there is a completely new political situation in Belarus now:

- Members of the European Parliament are well aware of what is happening in Belarus.

- What do they say about Lukashenka?

- That it is a dictator. It is absolutely clear to them what kind of person he is. They have been shocked by the impudent falsification of the "parliamentary election'' results in Belarus. The authorities were stuffing ballots nearly into the open, changing ballot boxes, falsifying the turnout, which was virtually not there. The observers recorded 10-20 per cent of the turnout, and the authorities, as always, wrote the stratospheric figures. The Europeans are shocked by the way Lukashenka was personally threatening the observers with physical violence.

There are no illusions about Belarus there. The only thing I saw was the huge interest. They were inspired when I said that the situation in Belarus is completely new now. I said that Lukashenka is hated in the country today, that many opposition activists took part in this election campaign, being well aware of what the "elections" in Belarus are all about. But during this election campaign they measured the public opinion when collecting signatures in apartments, holding numerous events in the streets, talking to thousands of people and they found out that Lukashenka has absolutely no supporters in Belarus, that 90% of the population hates him today. People just dream of getting rid of him as soon as possible. And this is the new situation.

I emphasize in conversations with European politicians that today it is necessary to support the Belarusian democratic forces, independent media, civil society, as it is possible to make real changes in Belarus next year.
