The people lined up in a living chain on the Old Bridge in Hrodna.

About a hundred residents of Hrodna took part in the action in support of the independence of Belarus and against the “deepening of integration” with Russia, Radio Racyja reports. The people stood with posters, white-red-white flags, and lined up in a living chain later.

The action on the Old Bridge lasted about half an hour. In the end, the protesters sent a resolution from the Hrodna residents in the form of a boat on the Nioman.

- I would like to thank all the people who came today to the center of Hrodna to express their protest, and demonstrate their attitude to the independence of our country. I am absolutely convinced that such actions are needed. They will continue until the threat of independence disappears,” said Vadzim Saranchukou, the activist and head of the Belarusian Popular Front party in the Hrodna region.

The resolution on the Nioman is a symbolic sending by water to the Baltic Sea, then to the Gulf of Finland - to St. Petersburg, where the dictators of the two countries will meet on December 20.

The action was partaken by representatives of various parties and organizations, as well as ordinary residents of Hrodna.

According to entrepreneur Ivan Bialenik, he came to the action because he wants to live in an independent country.

“I want to live in a free, independent country. I want my children in such a country. I believe that Belarus should be independent. It’s nice to have good neighborly relations with both the West and the East, but it should be just relations, not “integration” and something like that.

During the rally, its participants adopted a resolution that they did not want to participate in any alliances with Russia, and passing drivers supported the rally participants with sound signals.
