European Parliament Special Rapporteur On Belarus To Participants Of Minsk Rallies: Friends, Hold On!
PETRAS AUŠTREVIČIUS

Petras Auštrevičius has supported the protests against the integration with Russia.

Special Rapporteur of the European Parliament on Belarus Petras Auštrevičius supported the Belarusian protests against integration with Russia in his video comments during the meeting of the Eastern Partnership Parliamentary Assembly in Tbilisi, bchd.info reports.

"Dear friends, Belarusians. We are looking with admiration at what is happening in Minsk. At those who took to the streets with flags against the integration promoted by Putin and Lukashenka.

Only the people must decide the future of their country. We will always be with you. We understand the events that are happening in Belarus. And we care about the situation in Belarus. We want Belarus to be independent, democratic and co-operating with its neighbors," - the politician said.

The MEP urged not to lose faith and to hold on.

"Friends, hold on! - Petras Auštrevičius stated.

As for the recent parliamentary campaign, the politician said he saw no signs of "elections" in it. According to him, Lukashenka was just promoting his candidates.

"Since there were no "elections," it's impossible to recognize those "elected" by these procedures. Therefore, I hope that the European Parliament will not change its position, and we will continue to maintain relations with the democratic opposition," - the MEP stressed.

We remind that on December 7 and 8, rallies to defend the independence and sovereignty of Belarus took place in Kalinouski Square (Kastrychnitskaya Square) in Minsk. Several thousand people took part in them.
