Belarusian Film Got In Two Oscar Nominations

Is it a breakthrough of the Belarusian cinema?

The film "Debut", made by Belarusian Anastasia Mirashnichenka in 2017, will be nominated for "Oscar" in two categories - "Best Documentary Film" and "Best Foreign Language Film," kp.by writes.

Initially, the Belarusian "Oskar" committee nominated the film from our country in the category "Best Foreign Language Film". But then the Americans offered themselves to file into one more category.

- The American "Oscar" committee offered us to participate with "Debut" in the category "Best Documentary Film". In order to get there, it is necessary to meet a number of conditions. For example, the film should win at a Class A film festival or an accredited Oscar festival, and there has to be 200 screenings in cinemas in the United States. Yes, it can be done, but it will be very expensive. It turns out that an exception has been made for us, - Viktar Labkovich, producer of the film "Debut", says.

He specifies that in the "Best Foreign Language Film" nomination, due to high competition, the chances of passing from the long list to the short list are low. And there are all the chances to win in the documentary nomination.
