Lukashenka In Hysterics: European Belarus Candidate Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk Removed
Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk

What are the authorities afraid of?

Today, the Brest District Election Commission removed from the "elections" candidate of the European Belarus civil campaign Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk.

Andrei Sharenda, an agent of the European Belarus candidate, informed Charter97.org about it.

We remind that Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk became known due to her striking speech on Belarusian TV, where she demanded from Aliaksandr Lukashenka to resign.

The campaign pickets of the European Belarus candidate were extremely popular in Brest: hundreds of people came every day.

Famous Brest blogger Siarhei Piatrukhin recorded the video of the election commission's historic session:

Andrei Sharenda told Charter97.org details about dismissing the European Belarus candidate:

- What is happening to the authorities now is a panic fear. First of all, they are afraid of allowing Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk's video-address to air. Secondly, hundreds of people came to our campaign pickets for each of these 4 days, we distributed about 10 thousand leaflets - the support was colossal.

The authorities saw this and took an unprecedented step: they immediately cancelled our registration as candidates for fictitious reasons. It is obvious that the order came from above: to remove us immediately, because we are a serious threat to them.

The main thing they "found fault with" was our performance on television and our pickets. Palina's words that Lukashenka is a dictator, and there are no fair elections in Belarus scared them most of all. In fact, we are being removed for these words. It's just ridiculous: it's impossible to find a more ridiculous reason.

Yesterday evening, when they called Palina and summoned her to the commission, we knew that there had been a great take down of the officials and the police authorities in Brest regarding how they could have allowed Sharenda-Panasiuk's speech to be broadcast. Today, the fear and misunderstanding could be seen in the eyes of officials at the meeting of the commission - what to do next?

Apparently, they decided to decline all the responsibility for their actions. We know the names of those who made decisions: Tamara Naumovets, chairman of the district commission, and Liudmila Kapustsina, deputy chairman of the district commission.

We are appealing against this illegal commission's decision. According to the law, Palina is a candidate and we will continue the campaign. Our pickets will continue and we invite everyone to them. The fight is on!
