The policeman’s guilt is fully proved.

Policeman Siarhei Kuliashou was convicted for excess of power or official authority. He broke villager Anatol Hlytysiuk’s leg during the detention, Radio Svaboda reports.

On June 12, Kobryn district police department head Uladzimir Stsiapaniuk stood up for Kuliashou:

"You are not just passing judgment upon a district police inspector, not upon a Kobryn district police department employee – you are passing judgment upon the whole system of internal affairs bodies of Belarus," – the defendant's chief said.

On June 13, the prosecutor stated that Siarhei Kuliashou’s guilt was proved by witnesses, forensic medical examinations and an investigative experiment.

According to the prosecutor, the actions of the defendant "went beyond the limits of rights and powers and caused harm to the rights and interests of citizens, as well as state interests" and were abuse of power associated with violence against the victim.

As mitigating circumstances, the state prosecutor asked to recognize the payment on the harm done and the young children.

Judge Piotr Tsimashenka delivered a verdict that agreed with the prosecutor’s demand: 4 years of imprisonment in a colony with a reinforced regime.

After that, Siarhei Kuliashou was immediately placed under detention.

The trial was attended by dozens of policemen in uniform who almost completely filled the courtroom. However, most of them did not come to the pronouncement of the verdict.
