Pavel Seviarynets: We Must Prepare To Take Responsibility For Our Country

There are no guarantors of Belarusian independence, apart from God and the people.

Co-Chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Pavel Seviarynets wrote this on his Facebook page:

- For the last five years, I heard dozens of times the following thing from my friends, allies, politicians, diplomats: Belarus has no more obstacles on the way of the Kremlin Anschluss, but Lukashenka.

Now this wave has reached its peak.

However, they somehow don’t take into account the fact that the regime itself have been setting a trap for independence, murdered and jailed the best Belarusian people, destroyed the language, culture and the burgeons of the civil society, demolished economy, robbed the people, ate away and stolen the oil and gas freeload.

They say, Lukashenka has finally “seen the light” and became pro-independence. Hold on, Alex, don’t let us down.

Okay. I am ready to take such turn of events. Only if the “guarantor” brings the fruit, worthy of repentence:

- Makes a public statement, in which sincerely says: forgive me, people, I’ve been misleading you for 25 years – so that everyone finally understands where we are going;

- Cancels all slavery agreements with Russia, as even his government openly says this is slavery;

- Abolishes that ridiculous “parasite tax”, the contract system, the decrease of the labor record – to get back Belarusians’ trust to the state. The people will not defend the state that is strangulating them;

- Releases political prisoners;

- Rises the white-red-white flag;

- Opens the Belarusian National University;

- Blocks the channels of the Russian propaganda and legalizes Belsat, Charter, Radio Racyja;

- Prepares to pay the full price for gas, or purchase and deliver power resources from other markets;

- Invites Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine to command the army, ready to defend the country from the Crimea and Donbas scenario;

- Abolishes restrictions for small and medium business;

- And finally declares free elections, in which he will not participate.

Do you believe such actions of the “guarantor of independence” are possible? Even if Moscow declares an ultimatum and sets the timer?

If not, then it’s time to admit – there are no guarantors of the Belarusian independence, apart from God and Belarusian people. As Ukraine shows, even the “Budapest Memorandum” guarantees nothing.

Lukashenka can perform a function of a temporary plug. However, it’s up to us to decide, whether Belarus should be free and independent. It’s not him they will ask later. It’s us.

So: we must prepare to take responsibility for our country.
