SSU Major General: Kremlin Considers Changing Its Owner
VIKTOR YAHUN

Putin has made many enemies.

Newsweek, citing sources in the White House, reports that the Kremlin is looking for a successor to change Putin.

How plausible is it that the “Kremlin towers” are looking for someone to change the Russian dictator? Charter97.org journalists spoke about this with the former deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), reserve Major General Viktor Yahun:

– I think it's serious. The war against Ukraine, which Putin developed, undermined trust in the Russian Federation as an international partner. Many people were left without the resources they were counting on in Russia, roughly speaking, without the opportunity to end their lives somewhere abroad. Therefore, Putin has made a lot of enemies.

But the most important thing is that Russia has no prospects other than to remain on the list of states such as North Korea, Iran, and Syria. We don’t indicate China, that’s a different story. This is also not very comfortable for some people who are used to their children studying somewhere in the States, and not in China or Iran. The Kremlin has begun to consider the idea of changing its owner a long time ago because not everything is in such good order, not everything is so simple.

– What are the possible candidates?

– Oddly enough, they are constantly changing. They used to say that Putin was trying to bring Dyumin, his former adjutant, to some level. They talked about Patrushev's son, they said a lot of things. But, most likely, there will be no definite successor, as they are writing now, for example, about Prime Minister Mishustin. I don’t think he will be a successor. He is still a technical character.

Most likely, there will be some kind of, roughly speaking, triumvirate, like after Stalin’s death. Then it was not decided who exactly would take the lead. There were several people who took responsibility. Then Khrushchev won the interspecific competition. Therefore, I think there will be some kind of group of comrades.

– You said that Putin has made many enemies for himself. Can they somehow “help him leave” at a certain moment?

– Unfortunately for us, they do not have physical access to Putin. Putin “buried” himself in some kind of vacuum, and only a limited number of people can get there, it’s not even a bunker. Therefore, in this particular situation, it’s very complicated to personally approach and hit someone with a snuff box. But the environment is probably looking for some measures, through someone, somewhere and somehow. I don’t know whether they will succeed or not, but I don’t believe in any palace coups. There are no people there who could do it smartly and tell everyone that “the king is dead”. I think there will be a removal from power, as was the case with Khrushchev.

– Will the end of Putin be the end of the war in Ukraine?

– I don’t think so, because those people who are close to removing Putin are in different ideological positions. Another thing is that they may start some actions to try to somehow roll back the situation. If they don’t do this, then Russia simply has no prospects as a state, they will devour themselves from the middle, and there will be no need to do anything. History will repeat itself, like the disappeared Soviet Union.
