Those ones who removed the bells and demolished the churches at the time of the Bolsheviks ended badly.

On April 4, the authorities destroyed about 100 crosses that were installed around the perimeter of the memorial in Kurapaty, and on Saturday, April 13, another 50.

This has caused shock, confusion and an outburst of indignation in the society. Vitsebsk activist, Catholic Barys Khamaida has commented on the actions of the authorities to Vitsebsk Viasna. He calls the events in Kurapaty in the following way: it’s barbarity.

“But the vengeance is ahead! The only thing that can save those who destroyed the crosses is repentance. Let them go to churches, mosques, synagogues – and repent, repent, repent ... Otherwise – it’ll be the hardest end! This applies not only to those who destroyed the crosses, but also their descendants. Those ones who removed the bells and demolished the churches at the time of the Bolsheviks ended badly.

And we should not even try to understand this behavior. As this is impossible. Evil has the only motivation – to do evil...,” – Barys Khamaida said.

We remind that the Narodnaya Hramada party, a member of the Belarusian National Congress, called for a new prayer, “Deliver Us From The Evil,” near the administration of Lukashenka (Minsk, Karl Marx Street, 38) on April 15 at 6 pm.

On April 4, authorities demolished crosses around the Kurapaty perimeter.

Activists report that about 100 crosses were pulled down and taken away.

On March 1, at a press conference, Lukashenka expressed dissatisfaction with the crosses around Kurapaty, which can be seen from the road.

One of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress, Mikalai Statkevich, called for Sunday’s public prayer near the Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral (Orthodox) at Freedom Square, about 1000 people took part in it.

On April 12, authorities demolished another 50 crosses around the Kurapaty perimeter.
