Already Third Russian Commits Suicide Because Of Threat Of Expulsion From Belarus

Nikolay Demidenko was 68 years old.

It has become known about the already third Russian citizen who committed suicide in the last two months. The incident is, allegedly, connected with the threat of expulsion from Belarus. On December 31, 2018, 68-year-old resident of the Brahin district, Nikolai Demidenko, committed suicide, Radio Svaboda reports.

“He still had a Soviet passport, could not make a new one. Nikolai used to live in Karelia, the authorities could send him to Russia, since he had administrative offenses here,” – one of the sources of journalists, closely acquainted with the situation, noted.

He was born here

Nikolay Demidenko was born in the village of Uhly of the Brahin district. Then he moved to live in Karelia. About twelve years ago he returned to his homeland – to the village of Khrakavichy. His older brother lived here. Nikolai still had a Soviet passport, could not make a new one.

He had alcohol issues.

“We collected papers for him so that he could get a passport. The police even sent inquiries to Russia, to his last place of residence. His passport was issued in Russia as well. But he abused alcohol, so he could not make new documents.

He had fines for administrative offenses – he appeared drunk in a public place. At first it was necessary to pay the fines,” – employees of the Chamerysk village council, on which territory the village of Khrakavichy is located, say.

“He did not harm anyone, he was a quiet drinker”

The village council noted that Khrakavichy are located in the Chernobyl zone, 5-6 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

“You should understand, here is the border zone, the legislation is changing, enforced. After the accident at the Chernobyl NPP, houses were set up for immigrants here, therefore, people who wandered around could settle down here,” – they say in the village council.

They add that Nikolai did not harm anyone, was a “quiet drinker.” He helped villagers with gardens and other agricultural work.

“He did not bother anyone, nobody in the village complained about him. There were no cases when he stealed something or bothered someone. We used to tell him – make a passport, you will receive a pension. He promised, but never did that because was getting drunk often. If it were not for alcohol, there would be no such problems. But we are Christians, we feel sorry for people, everyone.

Where could he leave for in the middle of winter? In the open field? Especially considering that his brother lives here, in Rechytsa, and a sister in Homel. Well, they did not say that they would take him to the open field. Although one woman from here was put on the train once and sent to St. Petersburg,” – people at the village council explained.
