About BT Propagandists’ Inconsistency

The tone and message of the Belarusian state TV channels about relations with Russia for have drastically changed over two months.

In December, they criticized with all their might unequal economic conditions, argued that the issue of compensation was number one, showed again and again Lukashenka saying that the losses for the country would amount to $ 10 billion over several years, used various epithets talking about the perfidious Russia, which had hiked up the gas prices over the top and simply was obliged to compensate for losses in the oil sector as soon as possible. The ONT channel then compared Russia with a black hole. Russia quickly damped the Belarusian propagandists’ ardour with the help of two instruments: Babich and its own propagandists. In mid-December, the Russian ambassador to Belarus, Babich, publicly stated that they had been “playing too long” and off the point with the thesis on equal economic conditions. And the thesis really disappeared from the state channels, well, or radically reduced its presence. And in mid-January, the Russian federal channels showed the story about Russians who were allegedly “beaten in Minsk,” which alarmed Lukashenka. And now the Belarusian state-owned channels are engaged in praising the Belarusian-Russian relations, and if they talk about compensation, then it’s as if it were a real trifle. Sort of just a nail has broken. Following Lukashenka and his team, the state TV channels started to play diligently the game proposed by Putin: he said that we would first make an audit of the union treaty in all areas, you would tell us what you are ready to offer us, we would say in what areas we would like to get closer, and then we would deign to consider the question on tax maneuver. And now Lukashenka, who has elections around the corner and who would like to straighten out the energy sphere issue as soon as possible, walks around the children's technology parks in Sochi and pretends that he is interested. Bring the required ministers to bow down. And he says that “one does not live by maneuvers alone.”

Now, the state channels tell us, that the Russia's tax maneuver is “really hardly anything” for Belarus, because last year's bilateral trade turnover amounted to $ 35.5 billion, and the losses from the increase in oil prices will be about 350 million, that is, “less than a percent.”

The absurdity level of comparing budget losses with a total turnover fades in the face of allegory from ONT, famous for the most exuberant fabulists:

“To find tail-ends [solution of the compensation issue] sometimes you need to go back to the beginning of the woven threads, where you can see all the plucks that ruin the composition of large-scale tapestry of the Union State. Energy issues are important, but these are just separate sproutings, and of course they will come back to them, smoothing the global picture.”
