Belarus Could Become Second Afghanistan For Russia

Since childhood, Belarusians have absorbed the partisan spirit.

With his aggression against Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea, Vladimir Putin did more than anyone else for the creation of the Ukrainian nation. Now the Kremlin leader contributes to the consolidation of the Belarusian nation – and this will make his dreams of a new Soviet Union impossible, the Ukrainian edition of Glavred writes.

In both cases, Putin was trapped by his own security: he could have achieved his goals if he had used more compromise tactics.

Ryhor Kostuseu, leader of the Belarusian Popular Front, argues that the Russians do not understand the Belarusians or what they will face if they try to annex the country.

“Russian media and politicians say that if a Belarusian speaks Belarusian, he is already a Belarusian nationalist. But I ask: “If a Russian speaks Russian, is he a nationalist?”

“Belarusians are clever and they see what is happening with other regions that Russia is trying to control: Crimea, Abkhazia and South Ossetia have not started to live better,” – the politician believes;

According to Kostuseu, if Russia tries to occupy Belarus, it will find “not the Crimean scenario, but the Afghan one: Belarusians have absorbed the partisan spirit since childhood, and a lot of them will be ready to go into the woods.”
