Will the retirement age for women be raised?

The Minister of Labour has been asked whether it is possible to diminish the gap between the retirement age of men and women in Belarus in the future, tut.by writes.

The Minister has pointed out that, as of today, the gap between the age of retirement of men and women in our country makes about 10 years, while in Europe it is about 5 years.

Iryna Kastsevich has clarified that it is necessary to base on the demographic situation in Belarus, as well as on the lifespan of the population, when attending to this issue.

Herein, there’s no need to focus on the common labor market or, in general, on the common space within the EAEU.

“This should be a well-considered and weighed decision – to reach equal retirement age,” the Minister has summarized.

We remind, it was already declared in 2018 that the retirement age for men and women could be equalized.

Then, the Council of Republic suggested raising of the retirement age for women after 2022. In this case, the new stage of the retirement age increase may start in 2023.
