Former Employee of Mogilevdrev: Violation Of Work Safety Rules Is At Every Turn

Violation of work safety rules is at every turn there. That's how a former worker of Mogilevdrev comments on the explosion which occurred last evening in the varnish-and-paint shop of the enterprise, Belsat journalist Irina Dorofeichuk informs.

The explosion damaged constructions and equipment, people were injured. Six people are hospitalized.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Art 302, para 2 (violation of safety rules which resulted in an explosion and grave bodily injuries.

Workers do not comment on the situation, but former worker resigned in May notes that the violation of the manufacturing process - the misuse of the equipment - could cause the explosion.

Former worker of Mogilevdrev:

"In an old shop water was poured on varnish-and-paint equipment to reduce varnish vapors and to avoid fire hazardous situation. At the time when I resigned that procedure was ignored with new equipment, because the construction did not afford it."

According to him, the fire-fighting system was partially out of order, meanwhile there were cases of combustion at the enterprise. The previous one was in May.

Pinsk residents do not believe that the guilty are to be punished. Almost a decade ago there was the largest industrial accident in the history of independent Belarus. The explosition and fire killed 14 people and dozens were injured at Pinskdrev.

Mogilevdrev is one of ten enterprises of the woodworking industry and is best known for its corruption scandals. Less than six months ago the Investigative Committee informed about bribe-taking by Company Acting General Director; one of previous heads was accused of abuse of power. And now we have this explosion.
