Lukashenka Changes Decree On Denomination

The decree provides for the possibility to indicate the planned year of issue on banknotes.

On September 19, Lukashenka signed Decree No. 380, which amends Decree No. 450 of 2015 on denomination. As the dictator's press service reported, the changes are of a technical nature, tut.by writes.

The decree provides for the possibility to indicate the planned year of issue on banknotes.

There's a need for such solution because it is planned to issue some denominations of banknotes in 2019-2020 due to the increase in the number of worn-out banknotes issued in 2009. This decision was also caused by an increase in demand for small denomination banknotes in conditions of low inflation. Besides, it is planned to modify banknotes in order to increase protection against counterfeiting.

According to the decree, banknotes of 200 year should be exchanged for banknotes issued in 2009 or other years (the exchange of banknotes of the 2000 year for the banknotes of 2009 year ends on December 31, 2021).

In addition, the legal act took into account that the amendments introduced into the Banking Code come into force from October 29, 2018. Therefore, in order to avoid duplication, the rule that one Belarusian ruble of 2009 year equals 100 Belarusian kopecks of 2009 year is excluded from Decree No. 450.
