Ex-Commander Of Russian Military Base In Belarus Obliged To Pay $3 Million

The base is located in the Kletsk district, and is rented by the Russian Armed Forces.

In Russia, the court granted the Defense Ministry's claim for almost $ 3 million to the former commander of the military unit # 03522. The base is located in the Kletsk district, and is rented by the Russian Armed Forces. It turned out that for a couple of years the commander had signed documents confirming alleged repair work there, writes tut.by.

The Military Court granted the claim of Russia’s Ministry of Defense for an unprecedented amount - 201.5 million Russian rubles (almost $ 3 million in the equivalent) to Vital Martynau. He was the commander of military unit # 03522, which manages the Russian radar station "Volga" in the Kletsk district.

The base was created back in Soviet times to prevent missile attacks and is used by Russia as a long-term lease.

In 2012, the Russian company Slavyanka took over the contract for the repair of a residential town at the military unit, located a few kilometers away from the Hantsavichy. For two years, dozens of documents confirming final acceptance of executed work for the repair and construction for millions of rubles were signed between the company representatives and the commander. The mentioned works have not been performed though.

The officer was tried for abuse of official authority, in addition to material claims, he was also sentenced to 4 years of probation. At the same time, the investigation did not establish a corrupt component, and, according to the accusation, Martynau abused not out of greed, but for the sake of his career - "wishing to create a visibility of proper fulfillment of duties for the leadership."

This case has become one of the episodes in the criminal history of OJSC Slavyanka, with which the courts have been investigating so far. Earlier, the general director of the company was sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of 500 million Russian rubles.
