Friends And Family Of Policeman Who Shot Himself Near Brest: "We Do Not Understand What Happened"

The body of Valer Kalkis, a lieutenant of the Maskouski district police department of Brest, was found in the forest in the afternoon of September 12.

According to the preliminary version, the policeman shot himself from the service weapon.

The Investigative Committee confirms Kalkis’ death and says that, most likely, the incident is not of a criminal nature.

But the reasons for suicide are unknown.

Valer has just turned 21. This year, he has graduated from the Mahiliou Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He lived with his parents. His father is a builder, the mother is an accountant.

"We were good friends with Valer. But I do not know anything. Nobody understands what happened and why. One of our friends says that he called Valer on Friday – everything was fine. And then a few days passed – and here we are... – Valer’s friend told nn.by. – He did not complain about the service. He said that the team was good, everything was fine at work. We studied together. Valer studied well enough. He was an absolutely adequate guy. No bursts were noticed."

According to the guy, he learned about Valer's death from his mother. The woman says that she also does not know what could be the reason.

"We do not know anything at all and would like to know," – the sister of the deceased answered.

According to unconfirmed information, unrequited love could become the reason. There is information that the policeman’s body was found near the house of a girl he knew.
