Belarusian Women Give Birth Later, More Rarely Out Of Wedlock

In recent years, the average age of the mother at birth of the first child has changed dramatically.

Belarusians began to give birth to the first child after 26 years. And less and less often children are born out of wedlock. As tut.by writes, such conclusions can be drawn from the data in Belstat's recent collection "Demographic Yearbook of Belarus".

In recent years, the average age of the mother at birth of the first child has changed dramatically. If in 1990 it was more than 22 years, then in 2017 - more than 26. At the same time, the trend is that it is constantly increasing.

Сity residents give birth later than villagers. For example, last year, city residents first gave birth at 26.9 years, and in the village - at 24.8 years.

At the same time, the number of children born out of wedlock decreases every year. For example, in 2017, there were slightly more than 13.5 thousand such babies. For comparison, in 2016 - just over 15.6 thousand, in 2015 - about 16.5. Since 1990, most children outside of marriage were born in 2007 - almost 22 thousand.

Last year, the majority of children born out of wedlock were born by women aged 30-34 years - 3,800.

In 2017, the country was born 102 556 children. The maternal mortality ratio was 2 cases per 100 thousand births, and the neonatal mortality rate was 1.6 per 1,000 children.
