‘Courageous Mahiliou Residents Always Ready To Defend Their Home From Invaders’

The Mahiliou activist wants to place a memorial shield to honour the rebellion of the year 1661 against Muscovites.

Mahiliou activist Anton Kastsou collects signatures for honouring of the memory of the Mahiliou uprising in 1661, Radio Racyja reports.

A corresponding petition appeared on Petitions.by. In a week, it will be sent to the Mahiliou city executive committee. Kastsou offers to place a memorable shield on the building of the City Hall, where the uprising began.

- It is thanks to the courage of the residents that our city was liberated from the occupiers of Moscow, which meant the restoration of the Magdeburg Law and the return of Mahiliou to the European path of development, that is still relevant today. The shield will emphasize the historical continuity of Mahiliou from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Rzeczpospolita, to the modern Belarus.

Courageous Mahiliou residents are always ready to defend their home from invaders, as was the case with the Muscovites in the Middle Ages, or with the Nazis in the XX century. Commemoration will facilitate patriotism, integrity and dignity. Mahiliou should become an outpost of adequate and healthy nationalism, - Anton Kastsou believes.
