Shunevich About Babruisk Double Murder: Victim’s Behavior Leaves Questions

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has commented on the high-profile case.

Talking to journalists in Brest before the final board of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the regional executive committee today, Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich reported about the investigation of the double murder in Babruisk, BelTA informs.

The Minister notes that a preliminary investigation into the criminal case is being conducted at the moment. "I cannot comment on the circumstances of the crime, as the investigation is collecting evidence and will give evaluation. I can only say that it was a domestic crime, unfortunately, with grave consequences. The incident was caused by the human factor. There is such a science as victimology, which studies the behavior of the victim. The main aspects of this crime are to do with this," – Ihar Shunevich says.

At the same time, he says that there are also questions to the police officers. "There will be an investigation, including an internal one, regarding crime prevention issues and monitoring the behavior of persons who have previously committed crimes. Also today I will not give an assessment of the responsiveness, because, at first glance, we did everything right: we responded to the call according to the existing time standards, and searched for the scene of the incident actively enough. But you know, why they could not get there on time. At that, I think we should consider again the issue of professionalism of the investigative-operational groups and the opportunity to prevent such violations more efficiently," – the Interior Minister summarizes.
