Rosselkhoznadzor is bringing new complaints against the Belarusian dairy products.

Rosselkhoznadzor specialists found the excess of nitrates in the drinking milk of seven Belarusian enterprises and will conduct an investigation in this regard. Rosselkhoznadzor official representative Julia Melano reported that to journalists on Wednesday, TASS informs.

"Our laboratories found nitrates in Belarusian dairy products after carrying out laboratory tests," – she said.

In particular, nitrates are found in ultra-pasteurized milk produced by such factories as Minsk Milk Plant No.1, Danon Pruzhany, Molochny gostinets, Salihorsk branch of Slutsk Cheese-Making Plant. In addition, nitrates were found in sterilized milk produced by the Narach branch of the Maladzechna Dairy Plant and in the pasteurized milk of Vorsha Dairy Plant.

As Melano reminded, according to the existing technical regulations of the Customs Union, the presence of such nitrates as potassium nitrate (E251) and sodium nitrate (E250) is not allowed in milk and dairy products. According to her, many experts believe that nitrates are often added to milk to equalize the level of protein and stabilize (prevent the coagulation of milk) ultra pasteurized milk. "In this regard, Rosselkhoznadzor decided to investigate the causes of residual amounts of nitrates in milk and dairy products," – the representative of the agency added.

Negative effects of nitrates on the human body include weakness, deterioration of health, dysfunction of the nervous system, heart, kidney and liver, damage of intestinal microflora.

June 4 Rosselkhoznadzor announced that from June 6 it intended to introduce temporary restrictions on the supply of milk and some other types of dairy products, which are supplied both for processing (raw materials) and in consumer packaging over 2.5 liters, to Russia from Belarus. The ban will be on pasteurized, sterilized and ultra-pasteurized milk and cream; dry, concentrated, canned and condensed milk and cream; ; liquid, concentrated, dry whey; whey and milk protein concentrate.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Leanid Zayats called this decision "a protectionist step" and "knocking out" Belarusian producers from the market.
