Rumors about Andrei Stryzhak’s detention appeared last week.

The head of the health department of the Hrodna Region Executive Committee was detained by KGB officers. The department’s press service informed VG journalists about it.

Rumors about Andrei Stryzhak’s detention appeared last week. Journalists tried to check this information, but the Investigative Committee informed that he had not been detained under any of the ongoing criminal cases. The State Security Committee replied that they did not have information about the detention. On Thursday morning, the health department said that the head was on vacation. When asked about the term of the vacation, they said that "they do not know, it is necessary to check in the documents."

Only on Monday, KGB official representative Andrei Yarosh confirmed that Stryzhak had been detained. At that, the KGB did not specify how long the official had been in custody and what he was suspected of.

Andrei Stryzhak was born in Hrodna on October 5, 1963. In 1986, he graduated from the State Medical University, in 2007 – from the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus. He was a therapist, acting chief doctor of the Dalhovichy rural district hospital in Mahiliou region, a surgeon of the children's polyclinic No. 1 in Hrodna, a doctor of the children's orthopedic and traumatological department of hospital No. 4, a traumatologist, a deputy chief physician of the hospital, and then an Ambulance Medical Association in Grodno . Since 2003, he was chief doctor of the Hrodna Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. He was appointed Head of the Health Department of the Hrodna Region Executive Committee in December 2010.
