Schengen Visas To Rise In Price For Belarusians Up To 80 Euros

The new rules for issuing visas will come into force after their approval by the European Parliament.

The Council of the European Union approved the amendments to the Schengen Code proposed by the European Commission in March. Now the European Commission has got the opportunity to hold negotiations on changes in the code with the European Parliament and individual countries of the union.

The new rules for issuing visas will come into force only after they are approved by the European Parliament and all countries of the Union. This procedure will last at least until the end of the year, belmarket.by writes.

The changes proposed by the European Commission suggest an increase in the cost of visas from 60 to 80 euros.

The changes in the code also provide for reducing the response time for an application for a visa from 15 to 10 days. One can apply for a visa six months before the trip. It will be allowed to file the applications in electronic format, using an electronic signature.

Regular visitors of EU countries with a good visa history will be eligible for 5-year visas. To get them, it will be important to target the use of visas.

Also, the new version of the code will give the EU countries the right to issue single-entry visas directly at the border. It will operate in certain territories and in certain seasons. The measure will make it easier for foreigners to visit resort areas. Such a visa will only be valid on the territory of the issuing state within seven days.

The plans of the European Commission also include the reform of the visa information system, which will be available to both consulates and border guards, and in the long term, Schengen visas can become digital.

It cannot be ruled out that the impending changes in the Schengen visa code result in a reduction in the number of biennial and longer visas issued to Belarusian citizens by the consulates of the European Union countries this year.
