Activists Came To Palace Of Republic With Banner “Freedom To Media! Freedom To Journalists!”
ALES ABRAMOVICH AND SIARHEI PADZOLKA

They were detained.

On International Human Rights Day, the chairman of the Minsk Region Organization of the BSDP, Ales Abramovich, and the head of the Barysau branch of the BSDP, Siarhei Padzolka, came to the Palace of the Republic with posters “Power Violates Our Rights” and “Failure To Fulfill Human Rights Leads To Slavery.” The human rights center Viasna reports about it.

Thus, they wanted to draw attention to the violation of human rights in Belarus, however, as soon as the activists unfolded the posters, a blue minibus drove up to them, three riot policemen came out of it and detained the activists. Human rights activist Natallia Harachka, who did not take part in the picket, but was taking on video what was happening, was also detained together with the activists.

She managed to report that Maskouski district police department employee Astafyeu and two subordinates came up to her on the square. After the minibus arrived, he ordered riot police to seize her phone from one of the journalists present at the square, to whom the woman had managed to pass it on.

At 16.00, Ales Abramovich, Siarhei Padzolka and Natallia Harachka were in the Tsentralny district police department, activists did not know exactly what would happen to them later.

“We are forbidden to speak on the phone. Follow our fate!” – Ales Abramovich said.
