Viachaslau Kasinerau: Police Made For Itself Idol And Worships It

The statue of the town policeman is just as the sculpture of the horse at the Kamarouka market.

Activist and former political prisoner Viachaslau Kasinerau, who was tried for a performance with this particular statue in 2017, has commented to Charter97.org on the situation around the statue to the town policeman near the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Minsk.

– I want to urge once again not to call this monster (the monument to the town policeman in Minsk) a monument. This is not a monument, but a small architectural form. There is no historical or legal status behind it.

Thus, it is just the same as the sculpture of the horse at Kamarouka or the one of the girl, to which people come close to make a photo. This is just fine! These architectural forms are created so that people could interact with them somehow. I emphasize that they have this status. It was defined during my trial for the performance.

If we talk about what is happening now, then this is natural. As my case has attracted attention, and now people see that very unhealthy attention is paid to this ordinary urban sculpture.

During my trial, the policemen, who had detained me, testified that each time when posting of guards, they were given special instructions regarding this idol. It had to be especially protected, they had to keep an eye on it. As we all understand, the police have made an idol for themselves and worship it.
