Marhelau About Ban On Online Trading: This Will Neither Boost Light Industry, Nor Let Traders Down
VIKTAR MARHELAU

Authorities want to bar Belarusians from selling things via the Internet.

The co-chairman of the Republican Confederation of Entrepreneurship believes that officials want to limit the sale of used clothing and footwear on the Internet in order to protect the rights of buyers.

– After all, second-hand online trading is different from standard trading, – Viktar Marhelau said in his express comment to Salidarnasts. – If, for example, the seam gets broken or there’s a hole in the back... You don’t know, whether this thing is almost new, or someone has worn it for ten years. To a certain extent, this is a black box game. And then dissatisfied customers may be told: you, friend, were buying second-hand stuff, what were you thinking of? From this point of view, this restriction makes sense.

At the same time, Marhelau notes that the proposed restrictions will affect only online stores, and not the individuals who sell their things.

– Private individuals do not fall under the law, nobody restricts them. Sell as much as you like. We are talking about legal entities. That is a very small segment of trade. This will neither boost the light industry, nor let traders down. It is difficult to say how many zeros one has to to draw in front of the total turnover, in order to calculate this share – it is very small, – Viktar Marhelau explains.
