The Nobel laureate was awarded for “bravery in speaking out and defying injustice in the post-Soviet space.“

Svetlana Alexievich received the Anna Politkovskaya Award, founded by the non-governmental international organization RAW in WAR (Reach All Women in WAR) from the UK, Radio Svaboda informs.

The Belarusian writer, a Nobel laureate, was awarded for “bravery in speaking out and defying injustice in the post-Soviet space and giving the voice to those who fell into the trap of conflict in the past or present.“

Usually, this prize is awarded to women who are engaged in journalism, politics or human rights activities, covering military conflicts. Until now, our country’s representatives have not received it.

Anna Politkovskaya was a journalist of the Moscow newspaper – Novaya Gazeta, she was killed in 2006.
