Economist: Lukashenka’s Economy Cannot Pull Off More Than $ 450 Average Salary

Lukashenka’s ten-year-old fairy tale about “five hundred to everyone” is not to become a reality.

The authorities say that by the end of the year, the average salary will have exceeded 1000 rubles. Although there were other promises, there were famous $ 1,000, but where are the means? Leu Marholin, an economist, told Belsat about it:

“These promises are older than 10 years. At first, they were about 500 dollars, now they are more often talking about 1000 rubles, since everyone knows that the weight of the Belarusian ruble may be different. I have no doubt that there can be 1000 rubles, because December is a special month. For example, in December 2017, the average salary increased by as much as 18 percent compared to the November salary. This means that in order to accomplish the task, everything possible and impossible is being done. It does not matter by what manner of means.

We are in a vicious circle all the time. We first raise ruble wages, then the Belarusian ruble exchange rate falls. The average salary returns to $ 400 again, then we increase it with courageous efforts, and then the Belarusian ruble falls again... After all, objectively, without new technologies, new equipment, our Belarusian economy cannot give salaries that are over $ 400-450..."

The government once again assured that the average salary of Belarusians will reach 1000 rubles, even before the end of this year!
