Protests In Brest Came Up With Bang

More people gathered at the square in the city center than last time.

After numerous detentions, trials, and arrests of people who came to Lenin Square to feed the pigeons, even more people have come to the rally this Sunday. “Feeding pigeons” is taking place in the city today – a protest rally of Brest region residents against the battery plant construction in the region. More than 100 opponents of the battery factory construction have gathered on Lenin Square, the website of the HRC Viasna reports.

The police officers have summoned independent journalists and public activists to the police department on this day in order to reduce the public enthusiasm of the protest rallies that have been held in Brest since spring.

Human rights activist Uladzimir Vialichkin, who conducts monitoring of the peaceful assembly, reports that police officers in plain clothes are capturing on cameras everything that is taking place on the square.
