Britain Handing Ukraine Paveway IV High-Precision Aerial Bombs For First Time

Details have become known.

The UK government announced the largest military aid package to Ukraine for 500 million pounds. Now it has become known that it will include Paveway IV precision aerial bombs. This is reported by BBC correspondent Jonathan Beale.

‘The latest package of British military aid to Ukraine will include Paveway IV bombs,’ wrote the journalist on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

What Is Known About the Paveway IV Bomb

Paveway IV is the most modern version of the aerial bomb in the Paveway family. The projectile was developed by Raytheon UK. It has a dual-mode navigation system: satellite GPS or inertial INS. It is based on a modified Mk 82 aerial bomb with increased penetration.

The Paveway IV entered service with the Royal Air Force in 2008. The mass of the bomb is 230kg. Targeting is done by laser pointer in any navigation mode.

Currently, the carriers of the aerial bomb are fighter jets:

Eurofighter Typhoon;

F-35;

Panavia Tornado;

Harrier II.

It is not yet known which Ukrainian Air Force aircraft will be the carrier of the bombs. However, the Paveway IV is similar in its characteristics to the American JDAM and French Hammer. In both cases, the projectiles were integrated on Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters.
